Our Global Projects
Litter Less Campaign
From 2011 to 2025, the Litter Less Campaign was a global initiative led by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) in partnership with the Mars Wrigley Foundation. Through Young Reporters for the Environment, millions of young people investigated litter and waste issues in their communities, produced journalistic reports, and inspired positive environmental action through awareness-raising and local solutions.
Trash Hack Campaign
In 2021, YRE joined the global Trash Hack Campaign, developed by UNESCO and the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). The campaign empowered young people to find creative, practical solutions to waste and inspire more sustainable behaviours in their communities.
Earth Action Hub
Earth Action Hub was a youth-led global initiative launched by FEE in 2021 to inspire climate action through connection, collaboration and learning. The project brought together people of all ages for a three-day virtual event featuring talks, workshops and discussions led by young people, educators and sustainability experts from around the world. Designed by an international youth organising committee, Earth Action Hub showcased practical climate solutions and empowered participants with the knowledge, skills and hope to take meaningful environmental action in their own communities.
Collaboration with Scouts
YRE has collaborated with the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) across several global initiatives. The collaboration has included lesson plans linked to the Litter Less Campaign, Scout participation in the YRE International Competition, and joint activities for Global Action Days, including the 2025 "Nature's POV" activity. Together, these initiatives have encouraged young reporters and Scouts to explore environmental issues, develop storytelling skills and take action for sustainability.
YRE/ UNESCO Mission
YRE collaborated with UNESCO to empower young people as leaders and change agents for sustainable development. Through initiatives focused on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), young reporters developed their skills, explored global sustainability challenges and used environmental journalism to raise awareness and inspire action in their communities.
Climate Change & Southern Voices
Launched in 2020, Climate Change & Southern Voices was a multidisciplinary learning initiative developed by FEE Finland and the Siemenpuu Foundation. It supported young reporters in exploring climate change, climate justice and sustainable development from the perspective of the Global South, before putting their learning into action through a YRE project.
Speaking up for the Planet
In 2021, YRE collaborated with the UK-based charity Speakers Trust on a communication skills workshop as part of the "Speaking Up for the Planet" project, established in partnership with Climate Action, Race to Zero and COP26. The workshop helped young reporters build confidence in public speaking and develop impactful speeches to inspire environmental action.
Learning Packs with Deutsche Welle
In 2017, Young Reporters for the Environment collaborated with Deutsche Welle (DW) to create the Global Ideas Learning Packs. This collection of free multimedia resources was designed to help educators and young people explore environmental issues through engaging journalism, videos and classroom activities.
