Waste Sorting (Portugal)

17 Scout groups from the National Commission of Scouts (CNE) actively participated in the Litter Less Campaign, engaging 192 Scouts in a dynamic series of environmental education and action projects.

The campaign centered on key themes such as responsible consumption, circular economy, and waste reduction, supported by LLC lesson plans and activity lists. A standout initiative was the “Marés de Lixo” coastal clean-up, which mobilized over 50 Scouts along nearly 4 km of shoreline in Aveiro, collecting 235.7 kg of litter and raising awareness of marine pollution among youth and the local community.

In the Alentejo region, 450 Scouts in Ourique planted 158 native trees, contributing to the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. The campaign also included educational reels shared on social media, a Bioblitz biodiversity survey, and an international exchange with Greek Scouts during a visit to a recycling company.

Additionally, students from Agrupamento 478 Mirandela visited a regional waste treatment facility, gaining insights into the waste-to-resource process. These activities highlight the holistic, hands-on approach of the Portuguese Scouts and their commitment to sustainability, citizenship, and international collaboration.
