Pollution is not always visible to the naked eye. Discover how digital clean-up campaigns have a significant impact on our environment.

Internet energy consumption is constantly increasing, but we don't always notice how our daily web activities related to it. Unopened newsletters clogging the inbox, hundreds of unsorted vacation photos in the cloud or just scrolling mindlessly on social media - it all consumes energy through the devices and data centres where the data is stored, moved and secured. However, all these small habits add up over the years to an actual CO2 footprint affecting our planet. Data centres that power the internet may emit as much CO2 as the airline industry by now. And managing our digital footprint is not only beneficial for our planet but for our mental health and personal security.

The webinar shares the experiences and feedback of the Estonian Digital Cleanup Week campaign for schools, which was held for the third time this year and attracted about 10 000 participants. Campaign consists of everyday tasks on participants’ devices that aim to organize our digital life, delete digital waste and help reflect on our behaviours, while also providing knowledge about our digital footprint.
